Telegraph Avenue 1982

1982 was when I first started hanging out on Telegraph.  Though I wouldn’t become a “fixture” (for lack of a better word) on the scene until around 1993.  I lived with my pal B. N. Duncan for 3 months in his little hotel room in the Berkeley Inn. I remember that year as the first year where the punk kids hit the scene in a big way.

Its weird when I look back on all the different periods of Telegraph Avenue.  It reminds me of what Julia Vinograd used to say.  Its like every 5 years or so, Telegraph morphs into a completely different scene.  For years I never felt the need to leave Telegraph for a new place.  Because every five years, just about everyone else had left and Telegraph had turned into a new place on it’s own.
