One of my Facebook friends asked me what my take was on Trump’s latest scandal, and how I thought it would play out.
Trump basically with-held millions in foreign aid to pressure a foreign government to dig up dirt on a political enemy. Then compounded it by implying that the whistle-blower who exposed Trump’s wrongs was a spy who would have been shot as a traitor in more enlightened times. Ha ha. It’s as simple as that.
My Facebook friend speculated that Trump’s behavior — certainly outrageous and most likely illegal — would certainly do Trump in. To which I opined: “But you’ll notice that none of the Trump supporters on my Facebook page seem bothered by this. And I doubt his supporters in general are bothered in the least.”
There’s no way of knowing how this will yet turn out. But Trump very well may be able to bullshit his way through this Ukrainian scandal and come out even stronger with his supporters. Trump very well may spin this as one more “witch hunt.” His supporters will rally behind him for being unfairly attacked by those darn liberals. Impeachment dies in the Senate (which exonerates him in the eyes of his supporters). And he goes on for 4 more years working on his agenda.
My Facebook friend asked me why I thought Trump was so eager to dig up dirt on Biden in the first place? I said: “My guess is. Trump approaches everyone with the attitude of: ‘You’re on my side. Or you’re the enemy.’ He probably just wanted to see how much he could align the Uke Prez as his ally against his enemies.”
My Facebook friend went on to conclude that the Trump supporters lack of outrage over Trump’s despicable — if not illegal — behavior was a sign that they were truly a “basket of deplorables” who were beyond reasoning with. To which I said:
